An Announcement to the Geloylu Community and the People of Iğdır
As elections approach, the Geloylu Community observes political activity in Iğdır, noting the recurring cycle of ethnic-nationalist lobbying and reaffirms its commitment to principles of political independence and integrity.
As elections approach, we observe political activity in Iğdır's parties and witness the familiar vicious cycle, often involving racist and ethnic nationalist lobbies attempting to gain advantage and position for themselves.
The Geloylu Community, weary of politics, considers it its duty to adhere to the following principles, which it established and swore upon its honor in previous meetings:
- The Geloylu Community is not at the service of political parties; on the contrary, parties are at the service of the Geloylu Community. Parties come and go, but the Geloylu Community endures.
- Every Geloylu individual can and should participate in any party they wish. Indeed, we would be pleased if all provincial and district chairpersons of every party were Geloylu. However, while doing so, it is forbidden for political candidates to conduct propaganda and direct the Geloylu Community. No one can exploit the Geloylu Community for their own political goals or exert emotional, familial, or financial pressure on them. We will strongly oppose such situations.
- The Geloylu Community has the right to freely exercise its will during election time, as well as the right and freedom to vote for or against any party it chooses. It is not obliged to account to anyone. It must absolutely reject any pressure or manipulation. This stance is a matter of honor and pride for every Geloylu individual.
- Unfortunately, we witness money entering politics in Iğdır. Those who offer to sell their own vote or their family's vote in exchange for money will be exposed and ostracized.
- The Geloylu Community maintains an equal distance from all political parties. During propaganda periods, candidates have the right to freely express their views in Geloylu villages without any pressure. Every candidate, as an actor offering hope for better democracy for Iğdır and Turkey, and as a sincere fellow citizen, will receive due attention.
- Open voting and undue influence during elections are strictly prohibited.
- The Geloylu Community must steer clear of secret or open lobbying and maintain an honorable stance. Its free thought is also its honor. It must not compromise its stance and must adhere to these principles. It must prioritize candidates who are non-discriminatory and service-oriented.
