The Geloylu Community Bans "Blood Money"
The Geloylu community, a prominent tribe in Iğdır, has decided to abolish the tradition of "blood money" to promote peace and resolve disputes.

THE GELOYLU COMMUNITY BANS "BLOOD MONEY"
The opinion leaders of the Geloylu community, one of Iğdır's most important tribes, decided at their meeting yesterday to put an end to a tradition that has been entrenched within the tribe for years. Taking into account changing societal and global values, the community leaders have completely banned the collection or negotiation of "blood money" (kan parası), which for many years has caused, perpetuated, and even prevented the resolution of numerous feuds. They have also decided that anyone attempting to engage in such practices will be ostracized from the community. In this sense, "peace meetings" (barış toplantıları) will now cease, and it has been decided that any material damages incurred will be determined at the discretion of the opinion leaders. Furthermore, it was unanimously decided that minor feuds or conflicts that may arise within the Geloylu community will first be addressed through the intervention of the opinion leaders, and if a resolution cannot be achieved, the matter will be referred to judicial authorities. We would also like to state that we hope this initiative, which can be considered a revolution within the Geloylu community, will soon set an example for other tribes and communities, and that our Iğdır will transform into a peaceful and tranquil city.
