My Reply to Mr. Cüneyt Özdemir
Mücahit Özden Hun responds to Cüneyt Özdemir's comments on the "Kars lobby," defending the city's unique character and the solidarity of its people.
Mr. Cüneyt,
It seems the Kars lobby has created a Kars phobia in you. Let me remind you, Kars has many wonderful things: its Kasseri cheese, honey, noodles, Chechil cheese, butter, and especially its geese. It possesses a cosmopolitan and unique social structure, enough to inspire our Nobel laureate writer Orhan Pamuk. As a journalist of many years, I found it unbecoming of you to make a speech targeting and ridiculing the "Kars lobby" without acknowledging this aspect of Kars. I did not study at America's best universities thanks to the Kars lobby. We know that Kars was once targeted as "the city where the red flag flies on its castle," where its youth were tortured in Kars dungeons, and consoled each other by embracing after the torture. The spirit of solidarity and lobbying power of the people of Kars remains a memory of those days of torture. Do not begrudge them this. Sincerely, Mücahit Özden Hun
